Explore a two-bedroom farmhouse concept with room dimensions, three bathrooms, a shared hall and practical questions for adapting a layout.
Begin with the people using the bedrooms
Two bedrooms can serve very different briefs: a couple with visiting family, two households sharing weekends, or a home office that occasionally becomes a guest room. Decide which rooms need equal privacy, whether both are occupied routinely and how guests will use bathrooms without passing through a sleeping room. These decisions should precede a preferred facade style.
The Garden Weekender explores two bedrooms on a fictional 30 × 45 m flat plot. Its 168 m² footprint is a specific example, not a recommended minimum or a universal fit.
Read the shared route before the room labels
In this concept, the main entrance arrives in living and dining. A 1.50 m connecting hall serves the bedrooms, kitchen and guest bathroom. Both bedrooms have an attached bathroom and dressing area. The utility has a separate service door. Follow these routes on the plan before judging whether a room looks generous.
Bedroom 1 is 4.60 × 4.60 m and Bedroom 2 is 4.75 × 4.60 m in the illustrated layout. These clear room dimensions describe this prototype only. Furniture positions, accessible circulation and local requirements still need professional review.
Test four ordinary activities
- Arrive with bags: identify a place to pause without blocking the entrance.
- Prepare a meal: trace movement between storage, preparation, cooking, washing and serving.
- Host visitors: check access to the guest bathroom and outdoor seating.
- Go to bed early: consider the relationship between sleeping rooms and shared activity.
Use a printed plan to mark these routes in different colours. A room schedule helps compare sizes, but it cannot reveal every conflict between a moving door, an occupied chair and a person carrying a tray.
Understand what the extra spaces cost in area
Separate dressing areas, a guest bathroom and a utility create useful separation of activities. They also take area that could otherwise support a larger shared room or a smaller footprint. If the brief changes, compare removing a function, combining functions and changing the overall footprint as distinct options. Avoid shrinking every room by the same percentage.
For a deeper site, compare the Long-Plot Hideaway. It is a different concept with less developed internal detailing, so its suite zones cannot be compared as fully resolved bathroom layouts.
Use the drawing package as a review brief
The Garden Weekender includes opening schedules, elevations and a section alongside the floor plan. Keep the room arrangement, door identifiers and dimensions coordinated when exploring changes. The public PDF is an original reference; a private edited version may differ from it.
Before construction, the actual survey, permissions, accessibility, structure and services must be resolved. Start with the site planning checklist and use warm-stone references to discuss finishes separately from the plan.
