“Acrylic versus laminate” can compare unlike parts of a cabinet. The visible finish is one layer of a shutter; the substrate, back face, edging and hardware also need a specification. First ask each supplier to describe the complete panel and then compare the look and maintenance you want.
Clarify what each label means in the quote
REHAU describes RAUVISIO brilliant as an acrylic laminate and offers a pressed panel combining that surface, an MDF board and a balancing sheet. This illustrates why “acrylic” and “laminate” are not always mutually exclusive labels. Ask whether the alternative proposal means a decorative high-pressure laminate and identify the actual product. REHAU India: RAUVISIO brilliant panels.
Ask for a section or sample showing the front, core, back and edge. Record which parts are factory finished and which will be fabricated or finished locally. A matching colour name alone does not make two complete shutters equivalent.
| Part of the decision | What to record |
|---|---|
| Surface | Manufacturer, range, colour, finish and product-specific care guidance. |
| Core and back | Specified substrate, thickness, back face and balancing construction. |
| Edges | Material, profile, visible joint and fabrication method. |
| Hardware | Handle arrangement, hinge specification and adjustment responsibility. |
| Installed scope | Measured fronts, drawer faces, panels, transport, fitting and exclusions. |
Compare a complete sample under your lighting
View a larger finished sample upright, with the edge visible. Compare reflections, texture, colour and the appearance around handles. Bring the worktop and splashback samples into the same decision. Record the approved codes so the final quote and drawings describe the same selection.
Ask how a damaged front would be replaced and whether matching replacement material can be supplied later. Treat availability as a supplier question, not a guarantee implied by a sample or a photograph. Request the applicable product and fabrication terms.
Match care instructions to the chosen product
Formica’s care guidance recommends a non-abrasive cloth and cautions against flooding laminate seams because water can reach the substrate. Follow the instructions for the specified product instead of assuming every similarly coloured finish tolerates the same treatment. Formica: care and maintenance.
Ask the kitchen supplier to address edges, wet-area interfaces and nearby appliances in the complete design. A surface’s advertised resistance does not establish the performance of every cut edge, joint or substrate. Keep the care sheet with the installation and product records.
Questions before you decide
Is acrylic always a separate alternative to laminate?
Not in every product description. Some acrylic surfaces are themselves supplied as laminates. Ask what exact construction each quotation is offering.
Which finish is cheapest?
Compare current quotes for the same shutter size, substrate, finish, edge and installed scope. Aangan has not verified a universal price ordering for all products.
Can I choose from an AI kitchen photo?
Use the image to explain a preferred colour, reflection or arrangement. Verify the real surface with product information and samples before ordering.
